"Miracles of the Bayou"

There's so much that goes on in the bayou each night while we are sleeping. Thousands of different species interact, design artful structures and make skillful decisions- continuously. Living in the south, we almost become numb to all of the natural beauty around us because it's always been here and we know it's not going anywhere. We gaze at the bayou from a safe distance but quickly continue on with our daily lives. Sometimes we even stop, marvel at the beauty of the wetlands, and try to take it all in. A closer look at the bayou can reveal the magic and wonder that commences each night under the light of the moon.

Just like in our own lives- there are miracles happening each and everyday. According to the World Health Organization, there are approximately 250 babies born each minute of each day. Per day, that's an average of 350,000 babies delivered around the world. Every single baby is born bringing their own unique gift into the world. Some of the gifts are obvious like the magnolias that are in full bloom. Others are still waiting to be discovered- like the bud held by the brown pelican.

There are so many extraordinary occurrences that we deem ordinary because of the frequency in which they occur. We just don't stop to recognize what they are. When will we stop to notice these things? When it's too late? When do we celebrate the present for what it really is? A gift.
